How to import Squarespace data into HubSpot

Import your Squarespace customers into HubSpot. This template maps name, email, phone, and shipping address to HubSpot contact properties. Squarespace exports also include Total Orders, Total Amount Spent, and Email Marketing Status columns that don't have a default HubSpot home. The section below explains what to do with each one if you need it.

Columns we don't use

Your Squarespace export includes 3 columns this template doesn't map. Each one below explains why, plus the workaround if you want the data in HubSpot.

Total Orders

Squarespace records how many orders each customer has placed. HubSpot doesn't have a built-in order-count property.

If you need it. Create a custom number property in HubSpot called Order Count, then re-run this template to map it.

Total Amount Spent

Squarespace records lifetime spend per customer. HubSpot doesn't have a built-in total-spend property for ecommerce.

If you need it. Create a custom number property in HubSpot called Total Spent, then re-run this template to map it.

Email Marketing Status

This column records whether each customer opted in to marketing emails. HubSpot manages opt-in via its own subscription preferences, not a contact property.

If you need it. Filter out rows where Email Marketing Status is 'Not Subscribed' before upload so unsubscribed customers don't get marketing communications. Then set subscription preferences in HubSpot for the rest.

Formatting and cleanup

Squarespace exports rarely match the format HubSpot expects. Fix these before you import.

  1. 1.Lowercases and trims email addresses
  2. 2.Standardizes phone numbers to international format (+1, +44, etc.)
  3. 3.Renames Squarespace's verbose shipping address columns (e.g. 'Shipping Address Street 1') to HubSpot field names
  4. 4.Maps the standard contact and shipping address fields (see 'Columns we don't use' for the ecommerce and opt-in columns)

Or skip the manual work

Operelio runs this cleanup and mapping for you. Upload your Squarespace export and download a clean, import-ready file for HubSpot.

Squarespace to HubSpot FAQ

How do I export customers from my Squarespace site?

Go to your Squarespace Commerce panel, select Customers or Orders, and click Export. The customer export includes contact and shipping information.

Why does this template use shipping address instead of billing?

Squarespace's customer export includes shipping address fields by default. Billing address is not part of the standard export format.

What about order and transaction data?

This template maps contact fields only. Order count and total spend appear in the export but don't have default HubSpot properties; see 'Columns we don't use' below.

What about Squarespace form submissions?

Form submissions from Squarespace pages export separately from customer data. This template handles the customer/order export only. Export form submissions separately if needed.

Will this create duplicates in HubSpot?

HubSpot uses email as the unique identifier. Contacts with matching emails update the existing record. New emails create new contacts.
