How to import Mailchimp data into Monday.com

Export your Mailchimp audience and bring those subscribers onto a Monday.com board. The template combines First Name and Last Name into Monday.com's single Name column, then maps email, phone, and address to board columns. Monday.com doesn't deduplicate on import, so dedupe your CSV first if your audience has repeat addresses.

Columns we don't use

Your Mailchimp export includes 9 columns this template doesn't map. Each one below explains why, plus the workaround if you want the data in Monday.com.

Address, City, State, Zip, Country

Monday.com boards don't have a default address-block column set. Each piece needs its own column on the board.

If you need it. Add Text columns to your Monday.com board for Address, City, State, Zip, and Country, then re-run this template to map them.

MEMBER_RATING, OPTIN_TIME

Mailchimp's engagement score and opt-in timestamp are Mailchimp-specific. Monday.com boards don't have an equivalent column by default.

If you need it. Add Numbers and Date columns to your Monday.com board if you want to track engagement and opt-in timing, then re-run this template.

TAGS

Mailchimp tags export as a comma-separated string. Monday.com uses Status or Dropdown columns instead of free-form tags.

If you need it. Add a Dropdown column to your Monday.com board called Tags, then bulk-update tags on the imported items after upload.

NOTES

Mailchimp's per-subscriber notes are free text. They could map to a Long Text column on Monday.com, but it's not in the default contact board layout.

If you need it. Add a Long Text column to your Monday.com board called Notes (or use the default if your board has one), then re-run this template to map NOTES.

Formatting and cleanup

Mailchimp exports rarely match the format Monday.com expects. Fix these before you import.

  1. 1.Combines First Name and Last Name into Monday.com's single Name column
  2. 2.Lowercases and trims email addresses
  3. 3.Standardizes phone numbers to international format (+1, +44, etc.)

Or skip the manual work

Mailchimp to Monday.com FAQ

How do I export my Mailchimp audience?

In Mailchimp, go to Audience, click View Contacts, then click Export Audience. Download the CSV when it's ready.

Why do you combine First Name and Last Name?

Monday.com items have a single Name column, not separate first and last name columns. The template combines the two Mailchimp columns with a space so each item displays correctly on the board.

How does Monday.com handle duplicates on import?

Monday.com boards don't deduplicate on import. Every row in your CSV creates a new item. Run a deduplication pass on your CSV before uploading if you want to avoid duplicate items on the board.

What about my unsubscribed Mailchimp contacts?

Mailchimp exports include subscribed and unsubscribed addresses. Filter unsubscribed rows out of the CSV before upload to avoid importing people who opted out.

Where do I import the CSV into Monday.com?

Open your contacts board, click the + at the top-right, choose 'Import from spreadsheet', and upload the file Operelio produces. The import wizard matches the column headers to your board columns.
