Columns we don't use

Your Pipedrive export includes 1 column this template doesn't map. Each one below explains why, plus the workaround if you want the data in Close.

Person - Label

Pipedrive labels (Hot lead, Customer, etc.) don't map to a default Close contact field. Close uses Lead Statuses on the Lead record (separate from the Contact).

If you need it. After import, set the Lead Status on each associated Close Lead to match the Pipedrive label. Close's bulk-edit tools handle this in batches.

Formatting and cleanup

Pipedrive exports rarely match the format Close expects. Fix these before you import.

  1. 1.Maps Pipedrive's Person - Name directly to Close's name field (no split needed)
  2. 2.Lowercases and trims email addresses
  3. 3.Standardizes phone numbers to international format (+1, +44, etc.)
  4. 4.Maps Person - Organization to Close's company field

Pipedrive to Close FAQ

How do I export contacts from Pipedrive?

Go to Contacts (People), apply any filters you need, click the three-dot menu, and select 'Export to spreadsheet' as CSV.

Does this create Leads or Contacts in Close?

This template creates Contact records. Close models prospects as Leads with associated Contacts. After import, use Close's bulk-edit tools to associate the Contacts to Leads, typically one Lead per company with multiple Contacts.

Why is name a direct map and not split?

Both Pipedrive and Close use a single name field for the contact, so the data lines up directly. No splitting needed.

What about Pipedrive deals and pipeline data?

This template handles contact records only. Pipedrive deals map to Close's Opportunities, and pipeline stages map to Close's Lead Statuses, but both require separate exports and a different import process.

Will this create duplicate contacts in Close?

Close groups contacts under their Lead (company) record. Within a Lead, Close dedupes contacts on email; across different Leads the same email can appear twice. If a Lead with the same Company name already exists, new contacts attach to it, otherwise a new Lead is created. Spot-check or use Close's bulk-merge tools if you re-import the same export.
