Columns we don't use

Your Zoho CRM export includes 9 columns this template doesn't map. Each one below explains why, plus the workaround if you want the data in Close.

Mobile

Close contacts have a single phone field. Phone maps to it; Mobile doesn't have a default home.

If you need it. Add a custom phone field on the Close Contact called Mobile, then re-run this template to map it.

Mailing Street, Mailing City, Mailing State, Mailing Zip, Mailing Country

Close contacts don't have a default address block. Addresses are typically captured on the Lead in Close's data model.

If you need it. Add custom address fields on the Close Lead, or update the matching Lead records' addresses after import.

Lead Source, Tag

Close uses Lead Statuses on the Lead record, not the Contact. Zoho's Lead Source and Tag belong on the Close Lead, not the Contact.

If you need it. After import, set the Lead Status on each associated Close Lead to match the Zoho Lead Source or Tag. Close's bulk-edit tools handle this in batches.

Description

Zoho's free-text Description doesn't have a default Close contact field. Close uses Notes as separate records.

If you need it. After import, attach Zoho descriptions as Notes on the matching Close Contact or Lead, or add a custom multi-line text field on the Contact and re-run this template.

Formatting and cleanup

Zoho CRM exports rarely match the format Close expects. Fix these before you import.

  1. 1.Combines First Name and Last Name into Close's single name field
  2. 2.Lowercases and trims email addresses
  3. 3.Standardizes phone numbers to international format (+1, +44, etc.)
  4. 4.Renames Zoho columns to Close's lowercase API names (name, email, phone, title, company)

Or skip the manual work

Zoho CRM to Close FAQ

How do I export contacts from Zoho CRM?

Go to your Contacts or Leads module, select the records you need (or select all), click the three-dot menu, and choose Export to CSV.

Does this create Leads or Contacts in Close?

This template creates Contact records. Close models prospects as Leads with associated Contacts. After import, use Close's bulk-edit tools to associate the Contacts to Leads, typically one Lead per company with multiple Contacts.

Why do you combine First Name and Last Name?

Close Contacts use a single Name field, not separate first/last. The template combines the two Zoho columns with a space so each Contact record displays correctly.

What about Zoho Lead Source and Tag?

Close tracks status on the Lead, not the Contact. After import, set the matching Close Lead's status to align with the Zoho Lead Source or Tag using bulk-edit.

Will this create duplicate contacts in Close?

Close groups contacts under their Lead (company) record. Within a Lead, Close dedupes contacts on email; across different Leads the same email can appear twice. If a Lead with the same Company name already exists, new contacts attach to it, otherwise a new Lead is created. Spot-check or use Close's bulk-merge tools if you re-import the same export.
